Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: Edward B. Wright
Your Question or Comment !! -: My greatgrandfather, Edward Bailey Wright, a soldier in a Vermont regiment, was taken prisoner in mid-1864. He was later returned somehow to his Union Army outfit, arrested and tried, then reinstated. At least that is the information I just received yesterday, but it's somewhat confused. Any information you can give me about his time in Salisbury Prison would be greatly appreciated.
How did you discover the info you have now?: From Vermont records of E. B. Wright's military service; and from records of the National Archives, which I just received yesterday. These latter were part of the record of my grandmother's application in 1902 for a veteran's survivor's pension. This was denied, but the application had included a great deal of information about Edward B. Wright which I had not known before.

Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: Sharing information
Your Question or Comment !! -: My Great Great Uncle 1st Lt. Thomas Addison Ramsey and 15 other Union soldiers were captured in Nicholas County WV in August, 1864 and sent to Salisbury with a stop in Richmond. With Add were Wes and Bill Chapman, Austin and John Campbell, John and Ben Dorsey, Jack Sanders, Hiram Pierson, Hiram Reed, Lewis Halfpenny, Addison Ford, Hosea Fitzwater, a Martin man whos first name may have been Emannuel, and two men named Kincaid. Nine or ten died in the prison, one being shot by the guards and 2 others died on the way back home after being released on March 1st, 1865. The survivors were listed as Add Ramsey, John Dorsey, Hiram Pierson, Wes Chapman, Lewis Halfpenny, and one other that I do not have the name of.
How did you discover the info you have now?: This information is from the book The Ramsey Family History originally published in 1933 by James Clark Ramsey. Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: Salisbury, North Carolina
Your Question or Comment !! -: I'm doing research on my husband's family and have discovered that Michael Fischer (Fisher) married Maria Magdalena Eisenhauer (Eisenhoweer). The original Eisenhauer -Hans Nicolas Eisenhauer immigrated from Germany in 1741. The significance is two-fold - one, my husband is related to Dwight D Eisenhower and secondly, John Frederick Eisenhower has been noted to have died at the Salisbury, NC war prison February, 1865. John Frederick Eisenhower is the great, great, great, great grandson of Hans Nichols. I can't find his name on the POW list and am afraid he may be buried in the mass grave. Per ancestory.com, he was mustered out 1/15/1865 and died 2/15/1865 -does this mean he was repatriated on the 15th of January and died one month later. If you can, please explain these dates.

Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: Robert Moffat Livingstone aka Rupert Vincent
Your Question or Comment !! -: I am trying to confirm that Dr David Livingstone's son died and was buried at Salisbury, North Carolina. I have read various accounts of his death but the most plausible would be that he was wounded and captured at Laurel Hill and died in the POW camp, another version states that he was killed at Gettysburg. He was supposed to have enlisted in the New Hampshire Volunteers under the name of Rupert Vincent.
How did you discover the info you have now?: I have been reading several books on Dr Livingstone and H.M. Stanley ( aka John Rowlands) and it has led my to search for an explanation

Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: Private Oliver Stover, Maine 16th Regiment, Infantry, Co. I
Your Question or Comment !! -: Is it possible to get a picture of his marker? He is a cousin (2nd cousin 5 times removed) and I would love to get as much information about him as possible. I have always loved genealogy and my favorite time period is the Civil War, so you can imagine my excitement to find an ancestor that fought in this war. I had heard he was taken as a POW in VA and held at Salisbury, eventually dieing there in December 1864. I had also heard he was buried there. Any help/info you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated.
How did you discover the info you have now?: Through a post at http://www.jenforum.com/stover/messages/1635.html I found during research. I have since verified some of his info through the www.civilwardata.com web site. Maine State Archives advised they could only send me his enlistment papers.
